How to Calculate Baccarat Card Values

A quick guide for new players

Basic Card Values

Number cards 2–9 are worth their face value. 10, Jack, Queen and King are worth 0. Ace is worth 1. Easy to remember — all face cards count as zero.

How to Calculate the Total

Add up the values of all cards. If the total exceeds 9, subtract 10 (or simply take the last digit). Example: 7 + 8 = 15 → actual value = 5.

Highest Value = Natural 8 or 9

If either Banker or Player scores a total of 8 or 9 from the first two cards, it is called a "Natural" and the game ends immediately. No third card is drawn.

When Is the Third Card Drawn?

The Player draws a third card if the total is 0–5. The Banker follows specific rules depending on their total and whether the Player has drawn a third card.

Baccarat Strategy Guide for Malaysian Players

Many assume baccarat is purely a game of chance — just pick Banker or Player and wait. In reality, players who understand the statistics and manage their bets wisely can significantly maximise their playing time and minimise losses. At matahari999, we encourage every player to approach the game with strategy rather than relying on luck alone.

Top advice from seasoned players at matahari999: almost always bet on Banker. This is not just tradition — it is backed by mathematics. The house edge on a Banker bet is only 1.06%, lower than most other casino games. Although a 5% commission applies on Banker wins, it still makes Banker the statistically optimal choice in the long run.

Second tip: avoid the Tie bet even though the 8:1 payout looks tempting. The house edge on Tie is 14.36%, meaning your chances of winning are very slim. Experienced players at matahari999 rarely place serious money on Tie — at most, it's just a "fun bet" with a small amount. Keep your bets on Banker or Player only for more consistent results.

A third tip that's often overlooked is managing your bankroll carefully. Set a session limit before you start playing — for example, you're only willing to lose a maximum of RM200 in a single session. Once that limit is hit, stop without question. On the flip side, when you're running well in a session, consider locking in a portion of your winnings and playing only with the remainder. This financial discipline is what sets experienced players apart from beginners at matahari999.

Matahari999 Live Baccarat – The Real Casino Experience

If you have ever played baccarat at a land-based casino — whether at Genting Highlands or during a trip to Macau or Singapore — you will know there is something that is hard to replicate digitally. The interaction with the dealer, the suspense of waiting for that final card to be turned over, the energy of a live table. At matahari999, our Live Baccarat tables are designed to replicate that experience as closely as possible.

Live casino studio matahari999 operates around the clock, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week without interruption. Even in the early hours of the morning, professional dealers are on hand to serve players at the baccarat tables. The crisp HD video stream means you can clearly see every move the dealer makes, every card dealt, and all the real-time scoreboard animations on your screen — even on a standard 4G connection.

The baccarat scoreboard, or roadmap, is another feature greatly loved by Malaysian players at matahari999. The system records all previous round results in Bead Road, Big Road, Big Eye Boy and Small Road formats — allowing you to identify patterns and make more informed betting decisions. While baccarat is fundamentally a game of chance, understanding past result trends can help you bet with greater confidence.

For Malaysian players who enjoy baccarat while watching live EPL or Malaysia Super League football on another phone — matahari999 understands that need. Our responsive mobile interface lets you switch seamlessly between baccarat tables and the sports betting board. This is one of the key reasons so many loyal Malaysian players keep coming back to matahari999 as their single platform for all types of online entertainment.
